West Coast Cowan climbed to third on the ladder with a 57 point win against Hamersley Carine HC 5.2 (3.2) def by WCC 13.11 (89). With two wins separating third and seventh on the ladder each game is important in the race for finals especially when the team is above you, as was the case for Cowan on the weekend. The Tigers had something to prove after being outclassed when the teams first met this season however the first three goals went to Cowan as they kept the opposition goalless in the first quarter. Cowan were able to build their...
  2. Round 10 vs Stirling: Tigers Tear Apart the Saints

West Coast Cowan Tigers were far too good for the bottom placed Stirling Saints winning by 129 points.  The rout began from the first bounce as Cowan got the first clearance and first goal within the first minute of play. Patrick Brennan kicked the first two on his way to a bag of five, he was matched by Rex Fleay who also had five but both were trumped by Brad Bennet who dominated the day kicking eight. Guy Boudville and Brad Nisbett won plenty of possessions in the midfield while Brent Luckman and Michael Clare provided great run from the...
  3. Round 9 vs High Wycombe: Tigers Teach the Dogs a Lesson

West Coast Cowan enjoyed their Saturday afternoon at the football notching up three wins and a effecting a clean sweep against High Wycombe. After losing back to back games, Cowan needed to find their form and did so in the first quarter kicking six goals to two. Leigh Ashby was the main recipient kicking three goals, as the strategy to rest the ruckman out of the forward pocket paid off in spades. High Wycombe continued to work hard all over the ground and never let the game blow out although the sting had gone out of the game. A highlight...
  4. Round 8 vs Kalamunda: Battle of the Big Cats

It was the battle of the big cats as West Coast Cowan Tigers faced a tremendous challenge against the undefeated Kalamunda Cougars. The Tigers travelled to the hills with nothing to lose and confidence from two games last season where they led at times during the match however history repeated itself as Cowan gave up a three goal halftime lead to lose by ten points. Spurred on by a chance to lock themselves in the top two, Cowan started fast dominating the play but not putting it on the scoreboard taking a small lead into the first break. The form...
  5. Round 7 vs Hamersley Carine: Cowan Stumble

West Coast Cowan failed to cement themselves in second spot on the ladder after being defeated by a mature Hamersley-Carine side. Cowan came out quickly on their home soil and held a small lead going into the first break. The match remained close at half time despite Cowan not playing their best style of football. Undisciplined play and poor skills under pressure cost the home side several goals and they could not turn it around in the final quarter. Overall there was a lack of effort and passion from the team however Guy Boudville and Patty Upton-Davis were exceptions with...
  6. Round 6 vs Wembley: Wembley Take the Coastal Rout

West Coast Cowan demolished a hapless Wembley side to climb to second position on the ladder on the back of a four game win streak. The Tigers started quickly with the first four goals and to take a sixteen point lead into the first break. The margin extended to 46 points by half time due to a six goal quarter and in the third Wembley lost their composure giving away free kicks which resulted in three goals in a minute. On Wembley’s home ground it was Cowan who showed the poise and skill under pressure as they kicked away in...
