Marcus Ayres, a veteran coach of 20 years and a former West Coast Cowan Colts Coach, today was named Head Coach of the West Coast Cowan Football Club, succeeding Tristen Walker, who announced that he would move back to Melbourne at the end of 2011. “Coming back to West Coast Cowan as head coach is great, it’s like I’ve come full circle.” Ayres said. “As the Colts coach in the early 90′s at the beginning of glory years at West Coast to only recently winning premierships with the Collegians Football Club, I know both the history of this great club as well as what is required to win the amateur competition.” “We’re proud that our search was diligent, thorough, and resulted in today’s announcement,” said President, Isaak Dury. “Marcus’s track record and reputation as a player, great teacher, and as a coach makes us confident we that he will bring some great success for the Coasters in 2012 and beyond.” Ayres, who signed a three-year contract with the club, spent several seasons as a WAFL assistant coach for the Subiaco and East Fremantle, along with most recently Head Coach of the premiership winning Collegians side.
Zagreb, Croatia has a new football club, the Zaprudje AFC, and thanks to Premiership full back Dean Kennedy and West Coast Cowan they now have some footballs to kick around. The footballs were donated after President, Isaak Dury heard about the fantastic club and story behind the request and the progress being made in Croatia’s capital to form the new football club. “It is always a pleasure to help other clubs unlock the camaraderie that this great game brings regardless of the location.” West Coast Cowan already donates footballs and old football boots to indigenous communities in the north of Western Australia. Dean Kennedy said “I never had any doubt that West Coast Cowan would offer their support to a young football club in Croatia get on their feet, and they did so without hesitation.” Isaak continued. “It is only a small gesture of support, and we will keep an eye on whether the next David Marinovich honed his skills on a West Coast Cowan football.” The inaugural meeting of the Zaprudje Football Club was held on the 17th May 2011, with their first matches to be played in July.
On behalf of the Committee of the West Coast Cowan Amateur Football Club, I would like to extend an invitation to our inaugural Corporate Lunch to be held on Friday, July 22, 2011. The club is taking great strides both on and off the field and we see the corporate lunch as an opportunity to bring together sponsors, supporters and other stakeholders in a social atmosphere. The lunch is being held in the John Worsfold Room at Patersons Stadium on the Friday before the second Western Derby of the year between West Coast and Fremantle. We are fortunate to have former Collingwood player and our current league coach Tristen Walker plus Trevor Nisbett the CEO of the West Coast Eagles as guest speakers, along with past West Coast Amateur coach, former AFL player and WCE administrator Tim Gepp to MC what should be a great afternoon. If you could please download the booking form by clicking here to fill out and would be grateful if you could confirm your attendance by Friday, July 1. Looking forward to seeing you on the day. Yours sincerely, Isaak Dury President president@westcoastcowan.com

West Coast Cowan Football Club have strongly supported The Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal door-knock appeal again in 2011 raising more than $3000. The football club has rallied players and supporters alike for the last 5 years to raise nearly $20,000 around the City Beach area. This year more than 35 players and supporters walked the local streets to raise funds and awareness. Event organiser Alex Hamilton stated that “It was great to see young men putting their hands up so willingly to support their community in this way. The local City Beach area should be thankful to have these sorts of young people as a part of their community, it really is a pleasure dealing with them.” The Salvation Army and its volunteers raised over $413,000 this year, an increase of 1% over previous years. Red Shield proceeds go towards Salvation Army services including homelessness, family crisis provisions, disaster relief and drug, alcohol and gambling rehabilitation. Special thanks to Rex Fleay for running operations on the day despite being on crutches! Further donations can be made through Westpac branches or visting their website here: Salvation Army Donation Site

Register now?- We won it last year, now let’s do it again! West Coast Cowan Supporters, Sponsors and Players, today I am speaking through the voices of those that have come before us that go back all of 12 months. I want our collective voices to be heard by them. I want people 12 months from now to hear our chants for total unity for a challenge worthy of this great club. We are not alone in this time and space we occupy, we are the reigning champs of the Army Challenge and the entire football community of Western Australia is now against us in this struggle to regain our title. I have sent out his email to you all today because deep in our hearts I know that we share a common belief that we can beat everyone in the competition. We have our doubters, the skeptics and naysayers who say it can’t be done, that we’re dreaming and fools. I have heard those words before, it is much like the words used to describe our AFL style full ground defensive zone, that now allows us to thrash our opposition with quadruple the number of inside 50′s. We can be the Tim Archer and the Cal Murdoch who continue to smash sides, running through lines and constantly infiltrating the oppositions. You as a supporter have a choice,as a winner and champion of the club you can support us, or you can capitulate like the mugs that are the St ...
